Talking in english for Samoans and Tongans is a bit of a stretch for the older generations. The reason they say is because "other languages don't fit their mouth, and is no good". The second generation Samoan and Tongan Americans however can read in english because of schooling [doesn't mean they do it regularly], however there are now education movements to get Samoan and Tongan language inside the classrooms. A second generation Samoan American was asked which language did he prefer speaking in, and his answer was "I like speaking in Samoan to Samoans, and I like speaking in english to everyone else". He also said that he'd like to read more things in the Samoan language by Samoans.
